Microneedling
What is microneedling?
Micro-needling facial with SkinPen®.
We use the only FDA approved device able to be labeled as authentic, true, micro-needling. SkinPen® uses FDA patented technology to prevent blood-borne pathogen cross- contamination. Other micro-needling devices purchased online or by estheticians at trade shows, carry risks of cross contaminating with HIV, Hepatitis, and other blood-borne disease. In addition, less superior devices have needle technology that dulls over the course of your treatment. Only medical doctors are able to purchase SkinPen® to use as collagen induction therapy by creating 1,600 microchannels per second in the skin stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. Clinical studies have shown these channels remain open for at least 4 hours after allowing for maximum penetration of serums and platelet rich plasma growth factors. It is also the only device on the market with an FDA approved protocol for acne scarring. This is the gold standard to break up acne scarring. It’s cleared for all skin types and ethnicities.
What to expect
Set aside one hour for anesthesia/numbing. You can choose to pre-purchase your treatment and anesthetize at home. A packet of prescription anesthesia will be given to you to apply in the comfort of your home, as you would a face mask, one hour before your treatment. This will dry clear. After you check in for your appointment, we escort you to a washroom to wash off the anesthesia with our special cleanser. Then you are ready to begin treatment. Anesthesia can also be applied by our office on the day of your treatment, one hour before your scheduled treatment. You will be put into our waiting area until you are anesthetized and ready for treatment.
24 Hours After Treatment
Keep the area clean by avoiding exercise, intimate contact, sleeping with pets in bed, touching the area with dirty fingertips, dirty mobile phones, and/or make-up application. Sleep with hair pulled back and change pillowcase bedding. All that comes in contact with your skin will enter the skin for a limited time. We want to minimize breakouts due to bacteria.
MORNING AFTER YOUR TREATMENT
Wash with VI gentle cleanser
Avoid chemical/mechanical exfoliants
Small pin-point bruises are normal
Avoid direct sunlight
Avoid heavy makeup
Tenderness to touch is normal
Continue any in-office recommended creams and SPF
Avoid touching your face with dirty fingertips
Days After Your Treatment
Dryness and flaking is normal. This is due to an increased turnover of skin cells. Continue any in-office recommended creams and SPF. You may continue your normal skincare routine 3 days after being treated. Redness/mild tingling may be normal.
weeks After Your Treatment
Microneedling directly results in a clinically significant and observable increase in collagen. Treatment protocols will vary depending on whether you are being treated for acne scarring / textural irregularities or hyperpigmentation like melasma. The clinical process of making new collagen and elastin can take up to 10 weeks. Skin thickening occurs, texture is smoother, and scars begin to fill with new collagen deposition. This takes time and optimal results are achieved over multiple sessions. Patience is rewarded when it comes to achieving Micro-Needling best outcomes.
